Computer Act!ve

Laplink has updated its PCMover software, so that it will now copy security information to a new computer when transferring files, and is better able to cope with Windows Media Center Edition.
Laplink's software lets people easily move all their files from an old to new computer. But previously it would only transfer programs and files. Now it will also move individual user accounts with their settings to a new PC. This means settings such as private folders will be retained when the files are moved. The software can also be used when upgrading to a bigger hard disk or in advance of a new computer is purchased. The files are moved to an external hard disk, another computer, or burnt onto CDs or DVDs.
Transferring files and settings between two computers can be done over a network or using a special laplink cable. A USB 1.1 laplink cable is included with the boxed version. Ordinary USB cables cannot be used because of the power supplied over USB.
Laplink PCMover costs £24 to download or there is a boxed version that includes the transfer cable for £30.
