About Laplink Software, Inc.

For over 30 years, Laplink Software has been a global leader in PC connectivity. Our commitment to the needs of our customers has been the driving force behind all our product development and has earned the loyalty and trust of more than 15 million PC and Mac users worldwide who migrate, transfer, synchronize, share and remotely access billions of files per week.

We began offering a simple, efficient method of transferring data from one computer to another across the signature Laplink cable in 1983, and over the years this commitment to develop and advance migration technology led to the creation of PCmover, the company’s flagship product. PCmover now commands 95% of the migration software market in the U.S. alone and is currently the best-selling migration product in the world – outselling its competitors by a margin of 3-to-1. Today, PCmover is catered to meet the needs of various customer demographics and is available in a variety of editions, including PCmover Professional, PCmover Home, PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant, PCmover Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, PCmover Image & Drive Assistant, and PCmover Enterprise.

Laplink’s product line has also evolved to include Internet-based, wireless and peer-to-peer solutions for an increasingly mobile workforce. Our most recent product—Laplink Sync—is designed to allow users to synchronize files between their Windows PCs, Android tablets, and smartphones more securely by utilizing a peer-to-peer connection. By partnering with Intel’s Common Connectivity Framework, Laplink Sync allows users to choose their synchronization preference to keep all files and folders perfectly up to date. Laplink also introduced new patented technology, UltraSync, to automatically detect if files have been deleted, added, or otherwise changed, giving users the fastest synchronization possible in conjunction with Laplink’s SpeedSync technology. PCmover Image & Drive Assistant was developed to complement current imaging technology and allow users to restore images across different operating systems, such as restoring an XP image to a Windows 8 PC, while keeping Windows 8 intact.

Lap-link n.v.
The word is originally the name of a DOS program that transfers files between laptop and desktop computers. It was a nifty program, the brainchild of Mark Eppley, and he formed a company to sell it called Traveling Software in Bothell, WA. Eventually the program became so successful that the word LapLink became a common verb to connote the transferring of files between computers as in, "I'll go LapLink this file over to Mary's machine."
